Made it to Camp 1

HI Everyone,

We received another message from April and Bobby that they are doing great.  They have made it to Camp 1.  According to the coordinates from their SPOT device they are at 7675ft.  So they appear to be right on target.

Tonight I received an email from Mac.  He is a friend of Bobby's who summitted Mt. McKinley (congrats to Mac!). He told me that you do not hike up Heart break hill in the beginning.  You actually hike down it.  The reason it is called Heartbreak Hill is because after 2 to 3 weeks of being on the mountain pushing yourself to the limit, on the way back down back to base camp, you have to climb up 1000 feet or so to get back to base camp and it breaks your heart.  Thanks again for the info Mac!!  Keep the information coming!!!!

Hopefully the climbers are getting some good rest.  According to the itinerary, they have a tough day ahead of them.  They will start bring equipment up to Camp 2.  The hike tomorrow they will go up, drop some equipment off and return to camp 1 for sleep.  The next day they will take the remaining equipment.  When this leg of the climb is finished, they will be 2-3000 feet higher in elevation.

  1. Looks like they are approaching 9500', having made a lot of progress today. We received another message about an hour ago that they are doing great. It's so hot today in CT; it's amazing to think that they are trudging through so much snow.
