Voicemail from Climbers
I thought I would check my voice mail before I go to bed and there was a message from the climbers. I will blog about it tonight. They will have a day of rest tomorrow! They are doing great!!! LINK to Voice mail
10938 FEET.....It must have been a great day.
Hello Everyone!!!
So according to the SPOT FINDER the team is at 10938 FEET. The itinerary said they would go up and down carrying equipment. However, since they did not decend i can only assume that they had a great climb today and were all able to bring everything up with them all in one trip. I check the blog from last year and they did the same thing at this point.
The weather...I am not going to mention the weather any more. I am going to treat the weather like fight club (Movie - Fight Club). They said that the first rule about fight club is that you don't talk about fight club. So I will post the weather but i don't want to talk about it and jinx them. Its like the troll that was posted on the website earlier. Bobby didn't pack the troll because he felt it was bad luck.....so i removed the troll from the website as well.
I have been wondering what it would be like to be disconnected from the world for 2-3 weeks. No television, internet, emails, phones and text messaging and for some no Facebook. I think it would be amazing to be disconnected. Just be outside and away from life for a bit. Now don't be confused...i wont be climbing mt mckinley tomorrow. But i could totally go and sit on a beach in the nice sun and watch the ocean. I think while we do this climb i will try to disconnect from technology a little more. Maybe it will stick. Remember life without cell phones. Now April can call from Mt. McKinley.....how times have changed!!! Try to disconnect from technology a little more and reconnect with something you enjoy a little more. Tell me something that you will / or want to disconnect from. I am going to disconnect from the game candy crush.

Mt. McKinley in 3D
Hello Virtual Climbers,
How did everyone do on the first day. I am on adrenaline...not tired yet. LOL.

Hopefully the crew dried out from all the rain. But the below weather report doesn't look to great. I wonder if when you are climbing Mt. McKinley...would you rather have rain or snow? I would have to say snow. I am going to post a POLL. Look to the right and you will see the poll. I will leave it opened until 7/1 at noontime. I hope that everyone is enjoying reading this blog. Day 1 - Great Start
The trio had a great breakfast this morning and then got right to business. Looks like they all had their last shower and their last good meal for a few weeks.
So If you haven't visited the SPOT link yet check it out it....WARNING...it is highly addictive. I have the link on my phone and on my computer. Once they start moving I'm glued. Also Bobby said that the itinerary that we posted last year will be the same for this year. Its very interesting with a lot of information on it.
So the crew boarded the air taxi and flew out to Kahiltna glacier where they will prepare base camp at 7200 feet. Currently it is 6:30pm AKDT / 1030 EDT and according to Bobby, it is unusually warm there so they will be climbing at night. The team will gear up at 1am AKDT and will climb up to 7800 feet. This first climb to CAMP 1 is near the junction with the NE Fork of the Kahiltna Glacier. This is a moderate climb of about 4.5 miles. It will show the team what they are going to be up against in the days and weeks ahead.
The weather looks great for our climbers and also the stats for climbers that are reaching the summit are at a high of 79%. I was checking out stats from last year and only 41% of climbers reached the summit. Then I found some more stats and the last time that 79% of climbers reached the summit was back in 1977. That year only 360 climbers attempted it. Currently there are 280 climbers on the mountain.
